There is an old idiom that goes ‘shed some light on it’. It generally means making something less confusing or revealing information or details to give clarity or understanding.
In John, Chapter 8, the religious leaders questioned Jesus about several issues in the Law. They also questioned his interpretation of the law regarding adultery. The religious leaders, in their haste to find a way to discredit Jesus, did not bring their case in the way that the law requires. For example, they brought the woman whom they had accused of adultery, but they did not bring the man who was complicit in this adulterous affair. When Jesus finally responded to them, he did not present an argument about the woman or their faulty evidence. Instead, his words were meant to shed light on the condition of their own hearts – “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” (John 8:7 NKJV). When their own sinful condition was revealed to each of them, one by one, they began to walk away from the scene. Jesus then forgave the woman of her sin and sent her away.
The religious leaders tried to use their perverted version of the Law to support their case against Jesus, but He clarified the law, and it revealed the sin of the leaders. He declared, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12 NKJV). Jesus was speaking of the spiritual light that illuminates the Truth of God’s Word. His light reveals the walk of righteousness that the believers must seek daily.
The Light of the World reveals the truth of all things. Christians who follow Him will have clarity in their understanding of God’s Word and how His Light should be reflected in their lives. Walking in the light of life means seeking to align your will with God’s will for you. Are you struggling to surrender your will and align with His will for you? Confess it to Him today. Receive His forgiveness. Begin today to follow the One who gives the ‘light of life’.
The King is coming… are you ready?
